Sing It...
We grow up in a pedagogy of self denial; we’re trained by modernism to describe our desires in constant detachment to declare our rational individuation. We disconnect not only from our inner selves but also from the cosmos. National identity has struck a deal with modernity to hijack and appropriate singing: the act that we do to connect ’The Timeless’ past and future in the present.
This view of our betrayal of our heart is so ingrained that we stumble and pause when asked to examine our performance of one facet of our national pride.
The video piece is a call for introspection about how we treat identity and how we are numbed into participating in its destruction in the name of unity. It’s also a humorous connection with the desire to sing and be joyous in the face of adversity.
