Emanuel Licha

Emanuel Licha was born in Montreal in 1971. He currently lives and works in Paris and Montreal. After earning a Master’s degree in Urban Geography, he pursued his education in Visual Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, followed by a Post-graduate diploma at the Ecole nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon, France.

His work focuses on public space and architecture, leading to a reading of the features of the urban landscape as so many social, historical, and political signs. He conducts events in public spaces as well as doing installations, performances, videos, and photographs.

Recent solo shows include: In & Out, YYZ, Toronto, 2003; Honeymoon in Kosovo, Exit, Institute for Contemporary Art, Peja (Kosovo), 2004; Agnes & Bruce, Ex-Teresa Arte Actual, México City, 2005; Une autre fête au même instant brille dans Paris, Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris, 2005.
His work has also been exhibited at the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, 1999; Sarajevo CCA, 2002; Galerie Im Taxispalais, Innsbruck, 2003; Witte de With CCA Rotterdam, 2005; Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), 2006; USF Museum of Contemporary Art, Tampa, 2007.
